Beate Gjersvold works with painting, art installations, photographic art, and video installations. The theme she has worked with is In the Power of the Landscape / Landscape and Power – paintings that are based on landscapes, but where there is no intention of depicting the landscape as a place, rather as a feeling, an event, or an environmental description. In the theme Traces, the works consist of paintings, photographic art, and rusty objects. In exhibitions, she thus shows the beauty of objects that are on their way back to nature. Currently, she is working with the concepts of Time and Traces of Time. Here, she presents paintings in watercolor technique and art installations with rocks, stones, and minerals that she has carved from the rock. The paintings are made with watercolor paint produced from real stones and minerals.

In addition to the teaching listed in her CV, she gives lectures on contemporary art, on art history, and holds masterclasses in/around watercolor painting and painting techniques. Her most recent masterclass was at the Architecture program at Riga Technical University in April 2023, where she is now registered as a guest lecturer. Beate Gjersvold collaborates with artists from several countries, and she highlights ceramicist Brit Dyrnes (Norway) and visual artist Anita Meldere (Latvia). Among collaborations with institutions and museums, the long-standing cooperation with the Mark Rothko Art Center in Daugavpils, Latvia, should be emphasized. This has provided opportunities for several artists in Trondheim and for artists in Daugavpils. The collaboration is expected to yield further results and surprises in the future.
