 Sissel Vera Pettersen works simultaneously as a musician and visual artist. Over the past 20 years, she has contributed as a vocalist and saxophonist to more than 40 international CD releases and has toured major jazz festivals and venues across Europe, the USA, Canada, the Middle East, and Africa, including Blue Note Jazz Club NYC, Copenhagen Jazzhouse, North Sea Jazz Festival, Vancouver Jazz Festival, Rochester Jazz Festival, and Moldejazz.

She has collaborated with artists such as Lionel Loueke, Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, Chick Corea, Marilyn Mazur, Jon Balke, Terje Isungset, Christian Wallumrød, Marc Ducret, Toumani Diabaté, John Hollenbeck, Theo Bleckmann, Ambrose Akinmusire, and Bo Stief. Since 2016, Pettersen has served as the artistic director of the vocal ensemble Trondheim Voices. She has been nominated four times for the Danish Music Awards Jazz and has received Spellemann Award nominations with Trondheim Voices.

Pettersen has received several awards for her music, including Oslo Jazz Radio’s Have No Fear, Trondheim Jazz Festival’s Talent Prize, and two Heddas with Trondheim Voices for the production Hundre Hemmeligheter. She has composed music for film, dance, and performance, and has twice received commissioned works for Trondheim Jazz Festival, most recently for Trondheim Jazz Orchestra in collaboration with John Hollenbeck.

Pettersen has extensive experience in performance and stage art, collaborating with Kjersti Alveberg as musician/dancer/performer in Riksteatret’s large anniversary production Alice and in several productions with Cirka Teater. She also works as a visual artist, focusing on graphics and painting. She has held several solo exhibitions in Denmark and Norway and has created cover art for the German record label Winter & Winter.
